The Roman Republic was founded on 509 BC, due to Tarqin the Proud ruining the system of dictatorship, or kingship, for Rome.

Then, the Republic was founded, creating a new proprietary syst

em that split the power that was once of a king, into many positions. This includes the two consuls, who were the highest in power, the senate, praetors, and more. This system changed a lot in Rome, and marked a new age for its growth.

We estimate Roman republic lasted about 482 years, starting in 509 BC and ending in around 27 BC. In this time, Rome became many times bigger than the once small city it once was, and ruled almost all the Mediterranean. Rome certainly would have turned out differently had we decided not to mark the start of the Republic. We would not have grown so big, and the events led by Augustus leading into the Pax Romana wouldn’t have happened. Rome establishing the republic was something that changed Rome forever, and has helped Rome in many ways.
