This map of Rome represents the land that Rome had in 476 AD, which was well after the events of Rome splitting into two parts (the Western and the Eastern), and also was when Rome was very close to falling.
Here I have Tropicus Bulbocus, a Roman Cartographer to explain the map.
Tropicus - In this map I have the eastern and western sides of Rome split into 2. The blue represents the west side, while the red represents the east side. We can see that Rome’s land has exponentially decreased in the past 100 years, and is now about 1/3 the size of what it was in 370 AD.
Beammeupus - I assume the yellowish space represents land that isn’t Rome’s?
Tropicus - Yes, that land was lost in the course of a 100 or so years, due to Germanic invasions and such.
As You can see, Rome in 476 AD lost a lot of its land, and was 1/4 or so of what it used to be.
